Knowledge Capsules  /  Current affairs for children

Current affairs and GK for children, taught through stories.

Knowledge Capsules is a Kolkata education programme that teaches current affairs and general knowledge to children through storytelling. Every week it takes the biggest story in the news and turns it into a forty minute class children remember, in nearly 150 partner schools, including 78 West Bengal government schools where it teaches free, with 64 Kendriya Vidyalayas now onboarded (142 government schools in all). Every Sunday at 11 AM it runs the Sunday Mega Quiz, a free, live, KBC-style current affairs quiz for kids that any school child in India can join online. It suits children from Class 3 upward, about age eight. Founded by Rajeev Poddar, Knowledge Capsules has told the week's news as stories since 2016 and has run free classes for children since December 2022. Looking for a weekly current affairs quiz for your child, or a story-led GK class for your school? This is where it starts.

What parents and teachers look for

Current affairs for kids, answered.

Current affairs for kids, every week

One big story from the week's news, told as a story with the why behind it, in a forty minute class. Children remember it because it is a story, not a list of headlines. See the capsule library.

A weekly current affairs quiz

The Sunday Mega Quiz runs live every Sunday at 11 AM live on Zoom, with answers on the KC quiz page, free for any child in India. Every child who plays earns a certificate, and schools climb the school leaderboard.

GK quiz for kids in Class 3 to 5

Younger children play the same Sunday quiz as older ones. Questions are drawn from the stories children have been following, so a Class 3 child can answer them and a Class 8 child is still stretched.

For your school assembly or house quiz

Schools bring Knowledge Capsules in for a weekly class, an inter-house quiz or a whole-school quiz run live by a KC quizmaster. Quizmaster for schools.

In Kolkata, and online across India

Knowledge Capsules is based in Salt Lake, Kolkata, and teaches in schools across Kolkata and West Bengal. The Sunday quiz is online, so a child in any city can play.

Taught through storytelling

Rajeev Poddar built Knowledge Capsules on one idea: children learn the world best as a story. The same idea runs through every class and every Sunday quiz. How we tell stories.

Why it matters

Children who follow the world, lead it.

The story, not the syllabus

We do not hand children headlines to memorise. We tell the story behind the news, the why, so it stays with them and they can talk about it at the dinner table.

The confidence to speak

Following the world, and being asked what they think about it, gives a child something most classrooms do not, the confidence to have a view and say it out loud.

A habit for life

A child who looks forward to the news every week grows into an adult who reads the world clearly. That habit is the real gift.

Two ways in

A weekly class, and a free Sunday quiz.

The weekly class

If your child's school runs Knowledge Capsules, a trained educator brings the week's story to the classroom, every week, about forty minutes.

The free Sunday Mega Quiz

A live, KBC-style general knowledge and current affairs quiz every Sunday at 11 AM, live on Zoom with answers on the KC quiz page, open to any child in India, at no cost.

Certificates they keep

Every child who plays the Sunday quiz earns a topic themed certificate, a small trophy that brings them back next week.
